Alaska overtime rules
- Over 8 hours in a day: 1.5× the regular rate.
- Over 40 hours in a workweek: 1.5× for the hours not already paid as daily overtime.
- There is no double time under Alaska law.
The daily rule applies to employers with four or more employees. Some jobs and industries are exempt, and an employer and employees can use a voluntary flexible work hour plan approved by the state, which allows days of up to 10 hours without daily overtime.
Example
$25 an hour, four 10 hour days (40 hours). Each day has 2 overtime hours, so the week has 32 regular hours ($800) and 8 overtime hours at $37.50 ($300): $1,100. Under the federal weekly rule the same week would pay $1,000.

Do I get daily and weekly overtime for the same hours?
No. Hours already paid as daily overtime are not counted again toward the 40 hour weekly limit. You get whichever count pays more, which is what this calculator does.
