Florida overtime rules
Florida has no separate overtime law for most private employers. The federal Fair Labor Standards Act applies: non-exempt employees earn at least 1.5× their regular rate for every hour over 40 in a workweek. There is no daily overtime.
Minimum wage and overtime
Florida's minimum wage is higher than the federal one and goes up each year on September 30. Your regular rate can never be below it, so your overtime rate is at least 1.5 times the current Florida minimum wage.
Example
$15 an hour, 45 hours in a week: 40 regular hours ($600) and 5 overtime hours at $22.50 ($112.50): $712.50 before tax.
